Current Account Surplus Increased by 20% to $79.1 Billion in 2012, According to the Central Bank

According to preliminary figures for 2012 and revised figures for 2010 and 2011 published by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), the country's current account surplus widened by 19.6% to KD 22,174 million ($79.1 billion at the average 2012 exchange rate of $1 = KD 0.28) in 2012, equivalent to 49.9% of 2011 GDP, from KD 18,534 million the year before (41.7% of 2011 GDP). That increase was mainly attributable to a 21.4% rise in the foreign trade surplus to KD 27,101 million from KD 22,317 million in 2011.
