QP and Total Are Going to Cooperate in Research into the Add Stimulation of Carbonate Reservoirs

Qatar Petroleum (QP) and the French company Total have signed a cooperation agreement for conducting joint research and developing technology aimed at increasing the country's oil production. QP pointed out that this project fell within the technology cooperation framework agreement that QP and Total signed in November 2011.The purpose of this project is to resolve a problem associated with Qatar's hydrocarbon reservoirs, which are carbonate reservoirs. Injecting acid into wells dissolves part of the rock and thus improves the permeability of the reservoirs and enhances the productivity of the wells. The joint research program to be conducted with Total will mainly focus on formations with highly contrasted permeability while at the same time mitigating unwanted water production.
