Sahara/Maaden Joint Venture Contracts Daelim to Build its Caustic Soda and Ethylene Dichloride Plant

Sahara Petrochemicals Company informed the Saudi stock exchange - Tadawul - on 21 May that it had awarded an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract to Daelim Industrial Company of South Korea for a petrochemical plant that it is developing at the site of its complex in Jubail in a joint venture with Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden - AOG, 16 May, 2011). The plant is expected to cost $750 million and will have the capacity to produce 250,000 tons/year of high-quality caustic soda and 300,000 tons/year of ethylene dichloride (EDC). The project will be part financed by commercial bank loans and a SR 900-million ($240-million) credit that the Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF) agreed to advance last November (AOG, 16 Dec, 2010).
