Mr. Mohammad Aliabadi Succeeds President Ahmadi-Nejad as Minister of Petroleum

Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad had a lightening career at the head of the Iranian Oil Ministry (AOG, 1 June, 2011). The Iranian President, who had announced his intention of going to the OPEC ministerial conference (see page 3), had this strategic portfolio for only a very short time before the Council of Guardians restored order. The new Minister of Petroleum is Mr. Mohammad Aliabadi, whose appointment was announced by presidential decree on 2 June. However, like Mr. Ahmadi-Nejad, Mr. Aliabadi has only been appointed to the post on a caretaker basis.
