Iran and Belarus Intend to Strengthen Their Energy Cooperation Through the Creation of a Joint Oil Company

Iran and Belarus, which, for different reasons, are subject to pressures and sanctions on the part of the international community, or a significant part of it, are closing ranks, especially in the energy field. Following talks in Tehran in December, their relevant ministers - the Oil Minister of Iran and the Industry Minister of Belarus - announced that they intended to create a joint oil company to undertake projects in foreign countries. It is to be called Belpars Company, according to Iran's Shana press agency. This report has created some confusion, however, since last October Shana had already referred to a Belpars Petroleum Company, pointing out that this joint venture between the two countries had been operating in Iran since 2007.
