Promoters of Shuweihat-2 IWPP Close to Finalizing a $2.2-Billion Funding Package

The three partners undertaking the Shuweihat-2 independent water and power project (IWPP) - Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA - 60%), GDF Suez (20%) and Marubeni Corporation (20%) - are due to finalize the arrangement of a $l.l-billion commercial bank loan with a syndicate of 12 banks very shortly. The Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC) had already agreed to provide credits of $1.1 billion over 22 years for the project, and according to banking sources quoted by Reuters, this encouraged the commercial banks to join the syndicate.
