With Oil and Gas Revenues Having Totaled $22.1 Billion, the State Budget Recorded a Surplus of $10.6 Billion in 2008-09

According to the provisional estimates of the Central Bank of Qatar, the government budget for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2009 recorded a surplus of QR 38.86 billion ($10.6 billion), as against QR 32.95 billion (revised figure) in 2007-08. The budget was drawn up on the basis of an average oil price of $55/b, whereas the selling prices of Qatar Land and Qatar Marine crudes averaged $84.35/b and $81.28/b respectively during the year, according to AOG calculations. Revenues from oil and gas exports rose to QR 80.36 billion ($22.08 billion) in 2008-09 from QR 70.75 billion the year before, accounting for 59% of total budgetary receipts of QR 136.28 billion last year. Total expenditure increased from QR 84.9 billion to QR 97.42 billion from one year to the next, with development spending having amounted to QR 32.86 billion in 2008-09.
