FOB Price of Dar Blend Averaged Only 17.70/B in the First Quarter, 37/B Less Than That of Nile Blend

Sudanese oil revenues are rising, but the actual increase since 2006 has been appreciably less than the country's authorities had expected. Yet oil production is going up and market trends have been very favorable over the past few years. For technical reasons, however, the output and exports of Dar Blend crude have increased less than expected. Above all, Dar Blend has fetched a very low price, the Sudanese government revealed in a recent letter of intent sent to the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In the first quarter of 2007 its fob price ex-Port Sudan averaged no more than 17.70/b, fully 37/b less than the price of Nile Blend (54.70/b), Sudan's other export crude.
