E.ON, DONG Energy and Masdar Have Signed Contracts Worth $3.23 Billion for the London Array Wind Project

The consortium composed of the German company E.ON (30%), DONG Energy of Denmark (50%) and Masdar, an offshoot of Abu Dhabi Energy Fund Company (20%), have signed contracts worth nearly 2 billion euros ($3.23 billion) with seven European suppliers for work on phase 1 of the London Array offshore wind farm, which will have an initial capacity of 630 MW (AOG, 1 Nov., 2008). The offshore works are due to get under way in early 2011 and phase 1 of the project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2012. The wind farm will be located in the Thames estuary, about 20 km off the English coast. The main contracts awarded so far for the project are the following:
