Situation in Asia may shortly drive European FeSi prices up further

Spot prices for FeSi (75 Si) have added 1 in Europe in January, (9 in November; 5 in December) reaching EUR 1,070-1,110/t DDP. The buzz about shorter supply is waning, whereas demand is still weak amid relatively low steelmaking capacity utilization. FeSi supply will come up in Europe. The majority of production cutbacks announced for Q4 lasted only for 2-6 weeks. By Metal Expert's estimate, Europe's total FeSi output may increase to 97,000 t in Q1 (+17 quarter-on-quarter). Slovakia's OFZ and Norway's Finnfjord restarted production.
