The physiological effects of transferring critically ill patients

The practice of transferring critically ill patients between institutions is a common one and recommendations exist to guide appropriate conduct and organisation when such situations arise. The aim of this article is to detail the physical elements and hazards to which patients are exposed during the transportation process and describe the physiological effects that may ensue.
