Nationwide heat wave ends

A heat wave made its way across the Mid-Continent to the East Coast, causing a surge in cooling demand and setting new records for electricity usage. PJM reduced voltage by 5 pct in some states to avoid blackouts. Cooling demand in the Rockies is expected to be above normal beginning July 29 through next week.
