Fluidity on some of the largest coal-hauling railroads in the US has improved from a year ago, with train speeds up on all the railroads except BNSF. The nation's largest coal-hauler has seen average train speeds during the four weeks ending Dec. 1 fall 4.0 pct compared with the same weeks in 2005. Despite the dip in speed, BNSF's average daily Powder River Basin coal loadings in November were 49.3 trains/day, up from 44.3 trains/day in 2005.
