Coal prices in the US showed no sign of rallying as the autumn shoulder season for generators arrives, and broadly slipped in the week as forward demand projections fell and prompt demand failed to pick up in the face of still-climbing coal supply. Coal inventory levels have dominated the market discussions throughout 2006, and their substantial growth following the warm winter attracted considerable attention throughout the market and weighed on prices at the same time that producers' expansion plans were just beginning to take hold.
