Appalachian and Powder River basin (PRB) coal markets roseat the front of the forward curve this week as some buyersrushed to lock in near-term deliveries ahead of the Christmasand New Year's holidays.Even as participants started vacation, more than 10 dealscovering 206,000 short tons (186,883 metric tonnes) of coalcrossed over the counter through the middle of this week. Participantsindicated they also were able to secure some directmarket deals.
