Domains of cognitive impairment in bipolar disorder: commentary on 'The International Society for Bipolar Disorders-Battery for Assessment of Neurocognition (ISBD-BANC)'.

In the recently published article in Bipolar Disorders, Yatham et al. (1) introduced the preliminary battery of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) for assessment of neurocognition in bipolar disorder (ISBD-BANC). Committee members reviewed the cognition research in bipolar disorder to identify the most suitable neuro-psychological tests to use in future research and also evaluated whether the Measurement and Treatment Research to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia (MATRICS) Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) (2) or its components might be suitable for use in bipolar disorder. They also proposed that other social cognition and executive function tests (e.g., the Hayling Sentence Completion Test) should be studied further in bipolar disorder.
