Cities and businesses drive action on climate change

The agreement achieved at the United Nations' Climate Change Conference (COP21) held in Paris, France in December 2015 has been heralded as a great success. Outcomes from the conference include a long-term goal committing the world's leaders to ensure substantial reductions in carbon emissions before the end of the century. The terms include a five-year review mechanism, enabling countries to adjust their own targets over time. Although the agreement was not as comprehensive as many would have liked - for example, it made no progress on setting a global carbon price - it does set a course for substantial progress toward a low-carbon future and increased resilience to climate change in the years ahead.
