China lowers import tariffs on Australian coal

A free trade agreement (FTA) between China and Australiathat will come into force before the end of this year is likelyto raise the competitiveness of Australian coal in Chinabecause import tariffs will be reduced faster than had beenexpected. “This will deliver a very material early harvest for ourexporters in the form of two rounds of annual tariff cutsin quick succession. The first round of tariff cuts will occuron 20 December followed by a second round on 1 January2016,” Australia’s trade and investment minister AndrewRobb said today.
