Letter to the Editor regarding 'Conceptualizing impulsivity and risk taking in bipolar disorder: importance of history of alcohol abuse'.

This letter relates to the Holmes et al. paper published in Volume 11, Issue 1 (1). I commend the work conducted by the authors. This study has importantly shown that impulsivity is elevated in bipolar disorder, and that risk taking is elevated in bipolar patients with a history of alcohol abuse. However, I find it interesting that the authors did not find any association between impulsivity and symptom severity. Previous work has suggested that impulsivity predicts symptom severity in bipolar patients (2).
