China approves Glencore-Xstrata merger

The Chinese regulators have approved the merger of Switzerland-based trading firm Glencore and Swiss mining company Xstrata. Glencore expects the merger to be effective from 2 May. The Chinese ministry of commerce stipulated that the company must sell its Las Bambas copper project in Peru, after the final confirmation of the merger.
