China has raised electricity prices for industrial, commercial and agricultural users in 15 provinces by an average of 3pc, according to top economic planner NDRC. But the increase may not have an immediate impact on coal demand. The price hike, averaging 16.7 yuan/1,000kWh (2.58 dollars /1,000kWh), is the first since 2009 and follows an increase in on-grid power tariffs -paid by grid operators to power producers in a number of regions from April this year.
