Germany reaches agreement on lignite reserve

Germany’s economy and energy ministry has reached anagreement with the operators of the country’s lignite-firedpower plants over its planned lignite reserve.Eight units with total capacity of 2.7GW will graduallymove out of the wholesale power market into the reserve inOctober 2016-October 2019.The lignite reserve is aimed at cutting emissions in thepower generation sector by an additional 12.5mn t CO2equivalent (CO2e) by 2020.
