US ferrous scrap market shows strength in July

Prices for all ferrous scrap grades in the United States’ upcoming July trade could be sideways to $20-per-gross-ton higher than in June, dependent upon regional scrap flows, sources told Fastmarkets. Despite the seemingly uncontested increase of $50-60 per ton, US steel mills have been unable to secure enough scrap to stave off the possibility of further increases going into July’s trade. But it is unlikely that July’s domestic market will match the broad $50-per-ton increase paid for shredded and obsolete grades and the $60-per-ton increase for prime grades in June.
