Japan’s thermal coal imports hit 6-year low

Japanese thermal coal imports slumped to their lowest levelfor six years last month, as a fall in thermal power outputweighed on demand.The country imported 5.98mn t of thermal coal in May— the lowest level since May 2009. Imports were lower by15.3pc from a year earlier and lower by more than a thirdfrom April, according to finance ministry data.
