Treading water

Ships continue to pour out of Asian yards despite some shipowners' efforts to delay deliveries until trading conditions improve. Orders, on the other hand, are considerably harder to come by, with almost all yards in the region reporting little or no new activity for several months. For the most part it is popularity of container ships that has dropped since the height of the trading boom. Car carriers are also affected, but there are fewer of them being built and while bulker freights have dropped there does appear to be work for most of them.
