End of the line looms for Lindo yard

Danish owner AP Moller-M?rsk Group has pulled the plug on its in-house shipbuilder Odense Steel Shipyard, which will cease trading in early 2012 once all remaining orders have been completed. Low-cost competition from Asian builders and the yard's inability to attract orders that are commercially sound have been cited as the reasons behind the closure. "We have to realise that it is impossible for Lindo to attract new orders. The board has therefore decided to make it absolutely clear that Lindo will not be building more vessels once the contracted orders have been delivered,"said Lars-Erik Brenoe, Odense chairman.
