There cannot be a single industry in the world that does not affect the environment in some way or another. Shipping is no exception, but it is an accepted view within the industry that those outside shipping circles greatly overstate its impact. Regardless of how often the proven figures for pollution produced per tonne/mile by shipping are trumpeted as being far better than any other form of transport, shipping's image as the dirtiest of all seems almost impossible to shake.
