ABB successes in China

Chinese-built offshore vessels are to be fitted with azipods, following an agreement between ABB and Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co (ZPMC). ABB has also won other big orders from Chinese companies recently. ABB and ZPMC are to develop propulsion systems built around ABB's Compact Azipod technology for offshore vessels. The focus will be on vessels with relatively deep operating draughts, such as heavy carriers and drilling platforms, which represent an untapped market for ABB. "ABB continues to collaborate with industry leaders like ZPMC to provide innovative solutions for new industry applications," said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB's Process Automation division. "This agreement represents an excellent opportunity to provide these benefits to customers in an important new market area."
