THE Government has unveiled an action plan for enacting stricter animal welfare laws, including recognising animals in law as sentient beings.Defra released "Our action plan for animal welfare" on 12 May, outlining a series of proposed legislation reforms aimed at curbing animal abuse.Welcomed by veterinary associations and welfare groups, the plan promises to tackle a large number of animal rights issues, ranging from harsher penalties for those found guilty of animal abuse to a ban on exporting live animals.
