摘要

THE UK could be facing a welfare crisis where millions give up their animals because of mounting money problems. The warnings come as new data shows as many as 3.4 million households relinquished a pet in the past year and cited financial constraints as a chief reason. The Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA>has released its annual population data - and while it shows a record 17.4 million UK pet-owning households, and that 4.7 million households had acquired a new pet since the start of the pandemic, 12 per cent of homes with pets gave up at least one of them in the previous 12 months.
