Norilsk Completes Ice-class Fleet

Russian mining company Norilsk Nickel has taken delivery of diesel-electric container ship Nadezhda. The 18,500dwt vessel was commissioned in January 2009. It is the last in a series of five ARC7 ice-class vessels. When moving stern foremost at a speed of up to 3kt they are capable of breaking 1.5m-thick Arctic ice. Each ship has cost in the region of ?82M ($103M).
