Built at the Vigo-based HJ Barreras yard for ?89M($113M),Martin/Soler is the first ship in Spanish ferry operator Balearia's ?350M fleet renewal programme. The builder is contracted to deliver three similar vessels by the end of 2010. Balearia has placed its new 22,448gt ro-pax ferry, named aftera Spanish composer, on the Valencia-Ibiza run, where it will make two crossings a week, travelling at a service speed of 21.5kt. It is powered by two twin-screw, geared-drive MaK 9M43C engines both generating 9,000kW at 514rpm.
