'Sock on a stick'an alternative to cold ironing

A US-Based company finalising a contract to deliver an emissions control system for ships visiting Port of Long Beach says it believes the technology is as efficient as cold ironing, more flexible and potentially more cost-effective. ACTI Engineering plans to build and fit out a barge with its Advanced Emissions Control System (AMECS) technology. Harbour Commissioners at the Port of Long Beach gave preliminary approval for the technology to be tested last June at Metropoliat Stevedores' bulk terminal, and preparations are now under way for a system to be installed.
