First in series of ULCSs for Often

German shipowner Claus-Peter Offen has commissioned two ultra-large container ship new-buildings from Daewoo Shipbuilding Marine Engineering. The 14,000teu MSCSavona and MSC Alexandra are the first of 13 sister ships that were ordered by Offen during 2007 at a price of $165M each. All vessels in the series were contracted for long-term charter to the liner operator Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) and will be deployed in the Asia/ Europe trades.
