EU legislation to challenge biomass

The European Commission issued proposed revisions to the EU’s renewables, electricity and energy efficiency legislation Wednesday that will challenge the biomass sector. The commission proposes to end priority dispatch for renewables under revised electricity legislation. It also proposes a general EU-wide 27pc share of renewables that is not binding on individual member states. And revised energy efficiency rules will not exclude fossil fuel heating. This would have freed up market share for renewable heating systems including biomass.
