US plate tags up after more hikes take hold

Prices for carbon steel plate in the United States strengthened after the latest round of mill price increases were immediately reflected in new transaction agreements. Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel cut-to-length plate carbon grade, fob mill US was at $54.50 per hundredweight ($1,090 per short ton) on Friday March 5, up by 0.93 from $54 per cwt on February 26 and more than double the 2020 low of $25 per cwt in August. The latest assessment occurred in the same week that an $80-perton price increase was announced by SSAB Americas. Other US mills had issued hikes during the prior week.
