Scottish CHP plant begins operations

UK biomass developer Estover Energy has begun operations at its 15MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Speyside, Scotland. The plant is burning locally sourced wood chips to produce about 87 GWh/yr of electricity for the national grid, while 77 GWh/yr of heat produced by the plant is being used by the local Macallan whiskey distillery. A consortium of local growers and forest industry suppliers, including Stobart Biomass Products and UPM Tilhill, will supply the plant with locally sourced forestry by-product.
