Nucor, Gerdau raise beam, MBQ prices

Nucor Corp and Gerdau Long Steel North America have increased prices for steel beams by $50 per short ton ($2.50 per hundredweight) and for merchant bar quality (MBQ) steel products by $30 per ton effective with new orders from Monday March 8. All confirmed orders as of the close of business on Friday will be price protected if shipped before March 27, Nucor and Gerdau announced in letters to customers. The price increases are “the result of scrap settling way up for March," a West Coast distributor source said.
