A full year on from when Solutions last looked at the profile of the world cruise ship fleet, the total number of vessels in service, under construction or on order has not moved from the 553 ships that made up the fleet then. Minor changes have occurred in the status categories during the year and some new orders have been received that balance ships that have disappeared from the fleet during the intervening period. A year ago the forward orderbook for cruise ships comprised 23 vessels and today it stands at 22 ships. However, with eight vessels having been delivered in the meantime, it follows that seven new ships were ordered over the past 12 months. The number of vessels laid up has grown by four ships to reach 17 and another three vessels are earmarked for imminent scrapping.
