Cruise line goes pop

There has been a noticeable trend lately for cruise ships to feature eyecatching graphics and also to attract some very unusual godmothers. However, Norwegian Cruise Line's latest vessel, Norwegian Breakaway, due for launch next April, has upped the anti in both departments. The hull artwork has been designed by pop icon Peter Max, supposedly the most popular living artist in the USA. Norwegian Breakaway will be the largest ship to homeport in New York City year-round. Covering more than 3,700m2 of the hull, the artwork is a composite of New York City and cosmic imagery - the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline, a giant sunburst, planets, stars and musical notes.
