Simulator courses will speed up DP training

The new training concept, which was approved by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate in June, will come as welcome relief to shipowners, particularly Norwegian companies, who have been especially hard hit by the shortage of DPOs and the inevitable increase in their operating costs as owners fight to secure qualified personnel. In addition to the shortage of DPOs in their own industry, Norwegian shipowners also face pressure from other sectors such as mobile offshore drilling units or 'MODUs', which also require personnel trained as DPOs.
