Over the past 25 years or so there have been two noticeable trends in the fleet statistics for this type of vessel, as the five-year banding in the age profile table clearly shows. The trends are a gradual reduction in the annual number of newbuild-ings and a simultaneous rise in the average gross tonnage of ships.
