Building on experience with the 2008-built, dynamic-positioning ro-ro deckcarrier Aura, conceived for Baltic and north European project cargo and heavy load assignments, Finnish operator Meriaura introduced an even more versatile vessel in 2012, in the shape of the 4,350dwt Meri. Like its DP-classed predecessor, the latest multipurpose deckcarrier is eminently suited to the transportation and 'on site' delivery of special shipments such as offshore windfarm structures, but differs technically in encapsulating a 'double-acting' capability through an electric propulsion system and suitable underwater form. This allows the vessel to run efficiently stern-first in ice, independent of icebreaker assistance.
