Many South Korean builders have found it necessary to establish yards outside of their home country for both cost and capacity reasons. Hanjin Heavy is no exception and has shifted almost all of its commercial vessel construction to its Philippines subsidiary, HHIC-Phil, based in the Subic Freeport and one of the world's largest shipbuilding facilities. Although not the largest vessel built at the yard, the 160,000dwt Suezmax tanker Brightway, owned by the Sammy Ofer Group (SOG) and managed by the owner's Singapore-based subsidiary, Tanker Pacific Management, is an interesting ship for other reasons.
