Delivered in January 2012 into the Japanese coastwise trade as part of Nissan Motor Company's logistic network, the 1 l,400gt Nichioh Maru has been designed and equipped in keeping with the environmental action plan permeating the automotive group's activities. Aiming for a leading low corporate carbon footprint is a key objective of the mid-term Nissan Green Program 2016. Nissan's agenda manifested itself in 2010 in the first of a new generation of 2,000-unit car carriers for its intra-European services, City of St Petersburg. Its revolutionary, hemispherical-type prow, claimed to offer substantive savings over time in fuel and in CO_2 emissions through its efficient aerodynamic effect, expressed the 'green' strategy.
