Oil tankers and environmental commitment are not natural bedfellows but Aragona, a 319,300dwt VLCC delivered in March to Greek shipowner Neda Maritime Agency by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, could be the exception that tests the rule. Efficiency may be a current buzzword in shipping circles, with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) having become mandatory for most newbuildings at the beginning of this year but Neda has shown more interest in the concept than many owners.
