Last year, Norwegian shipbuilder and designer Ulstein Group announced its vision of how the bridge of the future might function. In a statement, the company described its patent-pending Ulstein Bridge Vision - a groundbreaking concept that promises major improvements for the operational centres of vessels. In some ways the concept harks back to something similar described by Sperry Marine almost 10 years ago but takes the idea a step further by drawing on advances in technology that have been made in the intervening period. The concept offers a catalogue of user-focused innovations that include gesture-controlled infographics displayed on bridge windows, a system that automatically adapts to the individual user's preferred setup, and a new breed of user-defined ergonomic work stations.
