Fuel-saving Capes ordered

Chinese shipyard Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) has announced an order for up to 10 Capesize bulk carriers from two European companies. The order is understood by market sources to be connected to John Fredriksen subsidiaries and for six 180,000dwt ships, with options for a further four. The newbuildings will be of a new fuel-efficient design that has no bulbous bow and will be powered by an electronic fuel-injection engine using about 20 less fuel than existing designs that are in service.
