STB Sets Deadline For Trinidad RR Purchase

The Surface Transportation Board has given Rail Ventures permission to negotiate the purchase of a 30-mile rail line in southern Colorado from Kern Valley Railroad.In a recent decision, the STB set a deadline of Sept. 12, 2001 for Rail Ventures to secure a purchase agreement for the rail line, which serves the New Elk prep plant and coal reserves owned by Lorencito Coal Mining. Located in Colorado's Raton Basin, the reserves were purchased by Lorencito in 1997 from Basin Resources (CD 5/29/97).
