Australian resource tax bills in parliament

Australia today introduced draft legislation into parliament for its proposed mineral resource rent tax (MRRT) and an extension of the petroleum resource rent tax (PRRT). A vote on the legislation is expected by the end of November. The MRRT is a profits-based tax on Australia's two largest mineral industries by export earnings, coal and iron ore, which the government plans to implement on 1 July 2012.
